After covering the F-shape layout, it's time to introduce you to another design that works wonders on your website: the Z-shape layout. You already know that your visitors don't actually read your content word by word, they scan it, therefore you should focus on the exact spots of your webpage that draw their attention. And, according to experts on usability, the Z-layout works exactly because it follows the natural tendency of the eye when looking for information on a given page: from left to right, then down and from left to right again. Therefore, the most important part of your message needs to be placed in these four corners, as shown in the image below: As you can see, the Z-shape starts with the most important element of your business identity: the logo. Placed in the upper left corner of your webpage, it will instantly grab the viewers' attention. They can then slide to the next point, which is a classy "login" button. Now all you need is something to separate the top from the bottom of the page and the best element to do that is an image slider or a movie, just like we did, on our homepage, to facilitate the eye movement downward, to the third element of the Z-shape layout. At this point you can choose either o text box or some icons, but make sure what you put there has some text attached to it, to accommodate the viewers' natural tendency of scanning from left to right. Finally, at the very end of the Z-shape layout lays your call to action - the last, and most powerful, in terms of results, of all your design efforts. Make sure it stands out, by using as few words as possible and visible contrast with the background! Keep in touch, Alexey |
